Conflict is a part of life. The mission of the Peacemaker Kids project is to teach conflict resolution skills to students everywhere. We believe that when all children can effectively resolve conflicts, our collective future holds the possibility of peace.

 

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has been linked to both academic performance and life success. Conflict resolution is an integral social emotional skill. Practicing conflict resolution skills contributes to a culture of safety and respect at school, which fosters a healthy learning environment and better academic outcomes.

 

Peacemaker Kids is a conflict resolution lesson plan that includes “Peace Pendants” students design and wear. Peace Pendants have an image of hands shaking on one side, and a conflict resolution script on the other. Students who participate and “graduate” become “Peace Teachers.” The Peace Pendants are laminated and attached to breakaway lanyards, which are used as a tool for students facilitate successful conflict resolution.

 

Peacemaker Kids is designed for kindergarten through fifth grade students. Currently in its beginning stages of development, the initial impact at the urban public school where it was piloted has been impressive. I created this website to meet the demand for the tool from educators, parents, and peace advocates. The ultimate goal is world peace. We believe school is a great place to start.
